Is Prepaid Legal a Good Company?

This is a difficult question to answer because the reviews found on the Internet are mixed on this aspect. The fact that this business provides an important and required service seems to be no doubt. The opinions voiced through the various reviews, say that this is a service in demand and most people feel this is a good investment. What should you normally expect when you subscribe to this service?

  1. Cost reduction - this is something similar to insurance; you would be privy to legal services at a much discounted rate from a network of highly reputed and talented lawyers.
  2. Access to special services for free - some specific items you could avail for free such as advice on how to make a will, drawing up a legally correct sales deed, real estate agreement/ deed, and the like.
  3. Access to a large library of legal documents and forms - instead of spending money and time searching for the exact document or form when you need some legal service completed, you could avail the access to a highly comprehensive data base to find the papers you would require with the least of effort and hassle.
  4. Preparedness - the best answer to the question, 'is Prepaid Legal a good co?' comes from this clause. The subscription to this service offers preparedness, which is a very important factor in the life of any person.
  5. Choice to upgrade - there are basic services and highly specialized services. You could choose whichever suits your lifestyle and budget. Upgrading could be done any time, so you could avail more for less in case of legal trouble.

From the above, the service seems well worth its salt. However, the picture has a few shades that are less rosy:

  1. Limited use - a number of reviews show that there is a tendency to see people opt out from the service in the second or third year. Could this be because they found this service not commensurate to the fees it charges/ limited applicability.
  2. Limited service - since this is a discounted service, there would be little or no choice of recommended lawyers. This could be a major obstacle, if you find the attorney "allotted" to you and unsuitable to your problem.
  3. Too much promise, too few deliverables - sometimes, and this seems to be the case with the plans sold through representatives more than directly from the company, you are promised far too much comparing to what is really your due. Unfortunately, the truth would come out when you need something in particular and at that time it would be a little too late to do anything about it. This explains some of the cynic reviews you would find on the Internet.
